The October 2020 Apple event review in less than 5 minutes

Apple has finally unveiled the new iPhones along with other gadgets after months of delays and disturbance caused by the pandemic. The majority of the upgrades are for the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 minis.

The iPhone 12 mini starts at $699 while the regular iPhone 12 is at $799. The regular Phone 12s are significantly thinner, smaller, and lighter than the previous iPhone 11. The most important upgrade is the OLED screen displays that are brighter with higher contrast that means better colors and higher resolution than its predecessors.

The iPhone 12 mini is pretty small. It's even smaller than the iPhone SE. The only concern on this phone is the battery life because there's only a small room for its components, much less for a battery. It might be needed to be charged more frequently than the iPhone 11.

The magnets at the back are called 'MagSafe'. It allows the phone to have a whole bunch of accessories; including the charger that just snaps at the back of the phone. In addition, Apple added new components to its Qi wireless charging coil to create an exclusive type of wireless charging that allows the mounting of different accessories such as credit cards at the back of the phone.

The new ceramic shield to make the screen a lot more durable. They claim it to be 4x better than the previous iPhone screens. Apple says Ceramic Shield is “tougher than any smartphone glass." Glass-ceramic is a material that excels because it’s tough, lightweight, and oblivious to heat and electricity.

The new iPhone 12 houses an A14 bionic chip for better GPU performance. It has two high-performance cores to handle demanding tasks and four high-efficiency cores to improve the phone's battery life. Don't get your hopes up yet, because its performance gain on the A13 sums up to only 8%.

On the other hand, the iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max feature a new design, shape, and colors; but people have noticed that it looks like they might have peaked with the iPhone 5. The focus on the iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max are apparently on the camera. The phones still got 2 lenses but its wide and ultra-wide camera now supports low light photos.

Both models support 5G connectivity. There's a boost in speed with 5G, but the increase in the internet speed most consumers are seeing now isn't significant enough to consider. 5G is not that popular with most phones today but might be a game-changer in the next 3 to 5 years.

A lot of people have speculated that the charger is not included in the box during the summer and got it right this time. At the event, they said that by not having the charger, the box will be much smaller, reducing 2 million metric tons of carbon emissions or the equivalent of removing 450,000 cars per year on the road. It also means simpler logistics reducing costs for the shipping of the units.

Along with the iPhones, the Apple Event also introduced the HomePod mini. The HomePod mini is a wireless speaker that is 3.3-inch tall slightly bigger than a tennis ball. You can stream music and audio with Apple Music, podcasts, and radio stations. It will also feature support to Pandora and Amazon Music in the coming months.
