Magnitude 6.3 earthquake rocks Metro Manila and nearby areas on Christmas Day

(UPDATED AS OF DECEMBER 26, 7:18 AM) More areas in Luzon have been included based on PHIVOLCS' latest bulletin who have experienced the magnitude 6.3 earthquake on the morning of Christmas Day.

The said tremor was located at 14km southwest of Calatagan, Batangas. It is tectonic in origin with a depth of 107 kilometers. There are no expected tsunamis to occur but aftershocks and damages on buildings is possible. So far, this is the strongest earthquake recorded in the Philippines for the month of December.

  • Batangas: Calatagan, Balayan, Nasugbu, Batangas City, Balayan, Calaca, San Luis
  • Cavite: Tagaytay City, Amadeo, Indang, Kawit, Alfonso
  • Laguna: Biñan

  • Occidental Mindoro: Looc

Intensity IV 

  • La Union: Santo Tomas
  • Pangasinan: Alaminos

  • Bulacan: Obando, Malolos, Meycauyan
  • Pampanga: City of Mabalacat
  • Zambales: Subic, San Felipe

  • Batangas: Taal, San Jose, San Pascual, Lemery, Malvar, Ibaan
  • Cavite: Maragundon, Carmona
  • Laguna: San Pedro
  • National Capital Region: City of Manila, Makati City, Marikina City, Quezon City, Pasig City, Las Piñas City, Pateros
  • Rizal: San Mateo, Antipolo City

  • Occidental Mindoro: Abra de Ilog, Paluan

Magnitude 4.1 Aftershock

Meanwhile, a major aftershock was recorded at 10km southwest of Calatagan, Batangas at 9:24 PM. It has a magnitude of 4.1, tectonic in origin, and has a depth of 102 kilometers.
